Choosing the right memory capacity is essential once you’ve determined which RAM type you need. Another critical performance metric is CAS Latency (CL), which indicates the delay before the memory module begins to transfer data. Although DDR5 features enhanced clock speeds, its CL ratings might initially appear higher than that of DDR4. It’s essential to consider that the increased clock rates of DDR5 effectively compensate for this increase in latency, with CL numbers typically ranging between 28 and 30 compared to the 12-16 range in DDR4.
Physical Fit and Compatibility
When purchasing RAM, size and compatibility with your system should also be taken into account. Although most memory modules are standard in size, ensure that larger CPU coolers do not interfere with the height of the RAM modules.
