'there Was No Changing Her Mind'

Demi Agoglia, 26-year-old UK mother of three, died tragically after undergoing a high risk cosmetic procedure she saw a celebrity advertise on social media, according to a recent autopsy report.

Agoglia died on January 8 in Istanbul, Turkey, three days after undergoing a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) procedure. Coroner John Pollard recently ruled her death the result of “misadventure contributed to by neglect.”

Agoglia’s hsuband, Bradley Jones, revealed that she had been influenced by a celebrity endorsement on social media, despite her loved ones urging her not to go through with the surgery, BBC reported.

“She was conscious about the way she looked,” her mother, Christine Tydd, told the court. “There was no changing her mind.”

Agoglia died from a microscopic fat embolism, a rare complication where fat enters the bloodstream, the report said. The condition is known to be associated with BBL procedures, but according to Pollard, the information and care provided to Agoglia was substandard.

“I find there was no proper informed consent in this matter,” he said. “There was no proper pre-operative care and advice, and no proper post-operative care.”

Jones recalled that she appeared unwell after the surgery, “shaking” and “very, very cold.” When she complained of chest tightness, clinic staff failed to properly assess her condition. She collapsed the following day and died in a hospital.

Pollard stated his intention to address concerns about overseas cosmetic procedures with UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting. “Something further needs to be done to stop this frankly barbaric medical practice,” he concluded.
