Six Individuals Injured in D.C. Stabbing Incident
Authorities in Washington, D.C., reported a violent incident on Thursday afternoon, resulting in multiple injuries caused by a man in a distressed mental state.
The Incident
On April 3, 2025, at approximately 3:22 p.m., police received reports of a stabbing in the Trinidad neighborhood, specifically near the intersection of Montello Avenue and Meigs Place NE. Upon arrival, officers found several individuals suffering from stab wounds.
D.C. Police Chief Pamela Smith stated, “Officers arrived on scene in less than a minute and located numerous people suffering from stab wounds.”
The Suspect
The assailant, whose identity has not been released, also inflicted stab wounds on himself during the event. He was subsequently taken into custody by police and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The suspect is currently undergoing surgery.
According to Chief Smith, the situation escalated when the suspect first harmed himself, then attacked a female acquaintance who was in his company, before turning on passersby on the street, including two good Samaritans who attempted to intervene.
Smith emphasized, “This incident highlights the need for assistance with substance abuse issues in our communities.”
The Victims
Among the victims, who were taken to area hospitals, are four women and two men, including a grandmother accompanied by her two granddaughters, as noted by Chief Smith. Thankfully, their injuries are considered stable and non-life-threatening. Precise age details of the victims have not yet been disclosed.
Response and Investigation
First responders arrived quickly, and a knife believed to be utilized in the assault was recovered at the scene, just a few feet from where the suspect was found on the ground.
While commending the valiant efforts of the good Samaritans, Chief Smith advised the public against intervening in violent situations, stressing that even heroic attempts can lead to further injuries.
“Even though we’re grateful for their intervention, we would ask that individuals who see incidents such as this to not intervene because these two individuals, although good Samaritans, were also stabbed as part of this assault,” said Smith.
