Salford City Football Club Acquired by New Ownership Group
Salford City Football Club has officially announced a new ownership structure, led by former England football legends David Beckham and Gary Neville. This acquisition, disclosed on Thursday, marks a significant moment for the League Two side.
New Ownership Details
The new ownership group includes U.S. businessman Declan Kelly and Mervyn Davies, known as the chairman of Britain’s Lawn Tennis Association. The announcement outlines a strong commitment to invest in the club’s future, including improvements to the team and facilities.
Previously, Beckham, Neville, and other members of the ‘Class of ’92’ were shareholders. This group also features Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, and Philip Neville. The others have stepped back as shareholders but will continue to play roles within the club’s operations.
Investment Focus
In a statement, Gary Neville expressed his enthusiasm for the acquisition, stating, “I am passionate about Salford City. This is a unique partnership with a diverse range of minds and expertise, held together by a love of football.” He emphasized the importance of prioritizing football while committing to sustainability over the next four to five years.
David Beckham, who has deep ties to the Salford community, reflected on the club’s historical significance: “Salford City is at the heart of its community… I am delighted to be a part of the next chapter.”
Recent Achievements and Future Goals
Since the ‘Class of ’92’ completed their takeover in 2014, Salford City has achieved remarkable success, securing four promotions within a five-year span. Despite recently finishing eighth in League Two and narrowly missing a playoff position, the club remains focused on its growth and development.
The club currently has nine shareholders, which include Dream Sports Group and individuals like Colin Ryan, Frank Ryan, Nick Woodhouse, and Shravin Mittal.
