Jim’s interest in becoming a Packers historian began unexpectedly when they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV after the 2010 season. Jim knew that three former New York Giants were now playing for the Packers. He thought of Coach Vince Lombardi and wondered if other New York Giants had come to Wisconsin before or after the great coach. Along with his own New York to Wisconsin journey, Rice could feel his lifelong love of sports history calling him. He answered with his book, Giant Cheeseheads!, which examines Giant-Packer games and all the great players and coaches they shared.

In writing about the games, Rice says, “game statistics are easy to find, but what most interests me is what happened on the field – the stars, the scoring, the impact of turnovers, and many other factors.” In a sea of sports writers and analysts, Jim stands out for his fresh approach of looking beyond statistics to summarize the action on the field.
