HYBE Latin America Launches Medellín Music Lab to Cultivate Local Talent
HYBE Latin America has established a significant collaboration with Medellín’s City Youth Secretariat, formally introducing the Medellín Music Lab, a new music incubator aimed at fostering local artists and providing them with international opportunities.
Empowering Local Talent
Federico Gutiérrez, the mayor of Medellín, emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating, “This partnership with HYBE is a testament to what we’ve always believed in: that the talent found within our youth can reach real heights and real opportunities.” He highlighted the city’s commitment to nurturing its younger generations and transforming lives through music.
Program Features
The Medellín Music Lab is designed to discover and develop the next wave of artists and music industry professionals. The program will provide opportunities such as:
- Auditions
- Bootcamps
- Workshops with industry experts
Additionally, renowned Colombian artist J Balvin has contributed to this initiative by donating a studio to facilitate the creative process. The Music Lab has received over 4,000 applications, from which 64 artists have been selected to contribute to the production of 24 original tracks.
Significant Events and Outcomes
On the horizon, Medellín will celebrate this partnership during the “Medellin Suena” event, marking a pivotal moment for local musical culture. This endeavor seeks not only to spotlight emerging talent but also to positively impact communities throughout Colombia.
The talent discovered through the Medellín Music Lab has already had tangible successes: four participants have been selected to perform at La Solar, a renowned music festival in the city.
Broader Initiatives by HYBE
Beyond the Medellín Music Lab, HYBE Latin has also partnered with Telemundo to produce “Pase a la Fama,” a competition aimed at forming the next significant Mexican band. This show will feature original music curated by Grammy-winning producer Edgar Barrera. The victorious group will secure a $100,000 prize along with a record deal with HYBE Latin America.
A Vision for the Future
Santiago Duque, head of the label at ZRPZ (HYBE), remarked on Medellín’s historical influence in the global Latin music scene, stating, “With this alliance, we aim to amplify that impact by combining local talent with HYBE’s know-how in developing global stars.” The Medellín Music Lab stands as a promise for a new generation prepared to make a mark in the music industry.
