Impersonation of Doctor in India Leads to Arrest and Patient Deaths
Authorities in India have taken significant action against Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, a 53-year-old man accused of posing as an internationally trained cardiologist. Yadav allegedly performed numerous surgeries, including a high volume of angioplasties, with questionable medical credentials, which have been linked to the deaths of at least seven patients.
Fraudulent Claims and Allegations
Operating under the alias Dr. N John Camm, a name meant to invoke that of a respected British heart specialist, Prof. John Camm, Yadav was reportedly able to deceive both patients and hospital staff. He claimed to have obtained training and experience from the UK, Germany, Spain, and the United States, even announcing plans to establish a major medical institution in Rajasthan.
Investigation and Arrest
The investigation into Yadav’s practices began when a child welfare committee reported a concerning number of fatalities linked to his medical care this year. Police Chief Shrut Kirti Somvanshi stated, “The accused doctor had worked on a total of 64 cases, including 45 cases of angioplasty, which led to seven patient deaths.” Following this, Yadav was apprehended in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
Previous Misconduct and Legal Issues
Upon further scrutiny, it was revealed that Yadav had been under watch for similar offenses in various Indian states. He faced a ban from medical practice due to professional misconduct in 2014 and had an arrest record from 2019 that included allegations of abducting a British doctor.
Yadav’s academic credentials are currently being examined, with police reporting that the documents he provided lack critical details necessary for verification.
Denials and Future Implications
Despite the serious charges against him, Yadav has claimed innocence regarding the allegations of impersonation. Just prior to his arrest, he filed a legal notice demanding 50 million rupees from those accusing him. Meanwhile, the genuine Prof. John Camm has publicly clarified that he has no association with Yadav and has been wrongly impersonated.
