Greater Austin Comic Con Kicks Off July 19 in H‑E‑B Center

The Greater Austin Comic Con opened its doors on July 19, 2025, welcoming thousands of fans to the H‑E‑B Center in Cedar Park for a two-day celebration of pop culture. With a dynamic blend of entertainment, nostalgia, and interactive fan experiences, the convention has become one of Central Texas’s most anticipated summer events.

The 2025 edition stands out for its rich roster of celebrity guests and unique reunion panels. Fans were particularly excited about the 35th-anniversary reunion of the original 1990 “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” film cast. This gathering included fan favorites such as Kenn Scott, Brian Tochi, Robbie Rist, Ernie Reyes Jr., James Saito, Kevin Clash, and Paige Turco. Their joint panel was scheduled for Saturday afternoon, drawing large crowds eager to hear behind-the-scenes stories from one of the most iconic family films of the early ’90s.

Adding to the star power, the convention welcomed sports and entertainment legends from various disciplines. WWE Hall of Famers Kevin Von Erich and Sgt. Slaughter were in attendance, alongside former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and heavyweight boxing great Riddick Bowe. Each of these personalities participated in Q&A sessions, photo ops, and autograph signings, offering fans a rare opportunity to interact with figures from both the world of sports and pop culture.

The event also featured cosplay contests, anime showcases, gaming tournaments, and a vendor hall filled with merchandise, collectibles, and original artwork. Cosplayers of all ages showcased their creativity, with separate contests for children and adults, while gaming enthusiasts engaged in retro arcade play and live tournaments. Attendees explored themed zones, including a Kids Activity Zone with magic shows and hands-on science exhibits, and a Pokémon trading and tournament area.

Programming included celebrity panels throughout the day, beginning with a “Legendary Family” discussion with Kevin Von Erich, followed by the TMNT cast panel, and an A-Team/UFC crossover featuring Rampage Jackson. Fans also browsed an expansive exhibit hall that included comic book dealers, independent creators, and specialty vendors. Outside the main building, a superhero-themed car show attracted families and collectors alike.

Event logistics were designed to streamline entry and enhance the experience. The convention ran from 10 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and 10 AM to 5 PM on Sunday, with VIP attendees granted early access at 9:30 AM. Ticket prices began around $61.80, with availability through Ticketmaster. Parking was available onsite for approximately $15 per day, and disabled veterans were provided free parking. H‑E‑B Center implemented a cashless policy throughout the event, accepting credit, debit, and Apple Pay at concessions and merchandise booths—though Apple Pay was not accepted at the box office or in the parking lot.

Attendees were required to follow safety protocols including a clear bag policy and security screenings. Costumes were encouraged but inspected to ensure compliance with venue guidelines. Fans responded positively to the convention’s safety measures, family-friendly environment, and the diverse mix of attractions catering to anime fans, retro gamers, wrestling devotees, and comic book collectors.

As the convention continues through the weekend, organizers are optimistic about its growing reputation and regional impact. The 2025 Greater Austin Comic Con reflects both the enduring popularity of classic pop culture franchises and the evolving tastes of a multi-generational fandom.
