New Sequels on the Horizon for ’10 Things I Hate About You’
The beloved romantic comedy “10 Things I Hate About You,” released in 1999, is set to expand with not one, but three sequels. Director Gil Junger has confirmed that he is collaborating with producer Andrew Lazar on this exciting new venture.
Planned Sequels Overview
The first sequel, titled “10 Things I Hate About Dating,” is currently in development. Following this, fans can look forward to “10 Things I Hate About Marriage” and “10 Things I Hate About Kids.”
Director’s Vision
In a recent interview with People, Junger stated, “‘10 Things I Hate About Dating’ is definitively in the works as a feature film. We’re developing it right now.”
Casting Possibilities
Junger expressed interest in reuniting with original star Julia Stiles, whose character, Kat Stratford, resonated strongly with young women. He also mentioned the potential return of Larry Miller, who played Kat’s father, although casting is still in early discussions.
“If it resonates with [the original cast] and I can have some cameos or even real parts, I’d love [that]…” Junger added, reflecting on the importance of original cast involvement.
Honoring Heath Ledger
The original film follows Kat Stratford, portrayed by Stiles, as she navigates high school life overshadowed by her sister Bianca, played by Larisa Oleynik. The film is also notable for featuring the late Heath Ledger as Patrick Verona, a character who provides significant emotional depth to the story. When asked about incorporating Ledger’s legacy into these sequels, Junger stated, “I think that’s a beautiful idea, and the answer is now going to be yes. He deserves to be loved.”
