Netflix Unveils New Animated Titles at Annecy Festival

In a much-anticipated reveal, Netflix will showcase an exclusive first look at the animated series “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” during the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, scheduled for June.

Highlighting “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85”

The series, which expands the beloved “Stranger Things” universe, will be introduced by executive producer Eric Robles during the “Next on Netflix Animation” event on June 11. This marks a significant moment for fans, as organizers promise a twist on traditional Saturday morning cartoons.

Other Animated Features to Premiere

In addition to “Stranger Things,” the festival will spotlight “In Your Dreams,” a forthcoming comedy adventure from Kuku Studios. Directors Alex Woo and Erik Benson will offer a sneak peek of the film, which is set for a fall release.

“In Your Dreams” follows siblings Stevie and Elliot as they navigate the whimsical and often absurd terrain of their dreams. The narrative reveals their journey filled with challenges, including encounters with a sassy stuffed giraffe and other bizarre obstacles in pursuit of their “ultimate dream,” as the Sandman promises to grant their desires if they succeed.

The film is produced by Timothy Hahn and Gregg Taylor and is anticipated to engage audiences with its imaginative storyline.

Adult Animation on Display

Another notable title making its appearance is “Fixed,” an adult comedy directed by Genndy Tartakovsky. This film humorously revolves around a dog facing the prospect of neutering, prompting him to embark on one final adventure. Tartakovsky humorously noted that while it may push boundaries, it ultimately conveys a heartfelt story of friendship and love.

Set for release on August 13, “Fixed” features a star-studded cast including Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, and Adam Devine, and aims to capture the essence of classic storytelling with an adult twist.

Additional Netflix Screenings

The festival will also host other significant Netflix projects, including “Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight” and “Devil May Cry” in the official TV Films competition. Furthermore, “Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage” will feature in the Midnight Specials program.

“The Big Fight,” based on the beloved characters created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, follows a plot where a potion master suffers memory loss, resulting in the village facing dire consequences from the Roman threat.

On the other hand, “Devil May Cry,” inspired by the popular Capcom video game, delves into the chaotic world of demon-hunting as protagonist Dante confronts sinister forces threatening to bridge the realms of humans and demons.

The Broader Animation Landscape

Addressing adult animation further, a masterclass led by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, creator of “BoJack Horseman,” is scheduled for June 12. He will be joined by the team behind his upcoming series, “Long Story Short,” offering a preview of the show.

This new comedy follows the Schwooper siblings through various life stages, showcasing their experiences and growth over time.

Additionally, the festival will highlight Ubisoft’s adaptation of “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” featuring iconic character Sam Fisher in a narrative that draws him back into action in a suspenseful storyline.

The Annecy International Animation Film Festival is shaping up to be a pivotal event for Netflix, featuring a diverse array of animated films and series that resonate with various audiences. With exciting releases on the horizon, Netflix continues to solidify its position in the animation industry.
