Jay North, renowned for his role as Dennis Mitchell in the classic 1959 television series “Dennis the Menace,” passed away on Sunday following a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 73 years old. This news was confirmed by long-time friend Laurie Jacobson in a heartfelt social media tribute.

In her post, Jacobson shared, “Our dear friend JAY NORTH has been fighting cancer for a number of years and this morning at noon EST, Jay passed peacefully at home. He had a heart as big as a mountain, loved his friends deeply… His suffering is over. At last he is at peace.”

“Dennis the Menace,” inspired by Hank Ketcham’s comic strip, was notable for its engaging depiction of childhood mischief. Over four seasons, the series aired 146 episodes, showcasing North as the youthful troublemaker whose antics often frustrated his neighbor, Mr. George Wilson, portrayed by Joseph Kearns.
