40 Years Later: The Breakfast Club Cast Reunites
The original members of “The Breakfast Club” came together on Saturday, marking four decades since their detention at Shermer High School.
Reunion at C2E2
Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall participated in a panel discussion at the C2E2 pop culture convention in Chicago. This event allowed fans to reflect on John Hughes’ 1985 classic film.
The panel was moderated by entertainment journalist Josh Horowitz, who guided the cast through their collective memories and experiences related to the movie.
Emotional Reflections
Molly Ringwald expressed her feelings about the reunion, stating, “I feel very emotional and moved to have us all together.” She humorously noted, “We don’t have to use the cardboard cutout anymore,” referring to Estevez’s previous absence at similar events.
In response, Estevez remarked, “I felt that I needed to do it myself,” emphasizing the significance of gathering in Chicago, where the film was shot.
Audition Stories
The discussion also covered how some cast members landed their roles. Anthony Michael Hall shared that John Hughes had simply called him without providing a script before offering him a part. “John just called up and said, ‘I want you to come in,’” Hall noted.
Meanwhile, Ringwald explained that Hughes initially planned to create “The Breakfast Club” before “Sixteen Candles.” “And then he wrote ‘Sixteen Candles’ … and turned it into the studio and they said, ‘Oh, we wanna do that one first,’” she recalled.
The Bond of Cast Members
Ally Sheedy, who portrayed Allison Reynolds, spoke fondly of the connections formed during the film’s production. “I was really happy when we were making this movie, we all really … I don’t know if you can tell but we all really do love each other. It was a dream,” Sheedy said, describing the filming experience as “a joyful experience.”
